The secret to proper maintenance of a deck is a gentle touch and a lot of patience.

DO use a brush to apply deck stain. It takes a little more time but it applies just the right amount of stain. And it lets you get into the crooks and valleys.
|
|
DON’T bring out the super-duper, heavy duty, “stand-back-it’s-gonna-blow” pressure washer for this job. It could hurt the wood. |

A Spa Treatment for Your Deck
- Everyone likes to feel rejuvenated, even your deck. Give it a spring-cleaning to make it beautiful for all your summer entertaining. And to protect it from the elements.
- First clean off the deck and sweep it thoroughly,
- Use a pressure washer with a pressure of no more than 1500 psi. It does a thorough job without hurting the wood. Working from one side of the deck to the other, gently pass the pressure washer over the wood to remove dirt and sun damage. (see figs. A & B)

- If you have algae build-up, you may need to use a commercial deck cleaner applied with a stiff bristle broom.
- Let dry 24 hours.
- No spa treatment would be complete without a facial. In this case, it’s new stain. Use a brush to apply a coat of good quality protective stain. (see fig. C)
- Your deck looks years younger and is much more relaxed too. (see fig. D)
