If a room has a low ceiling, stripes give an area a lift, without raising the roof. Vertical stripes lift the eye and make a room look taller than it is. With careful measuring and a little patience, some painted stripes can enlarge your favourite room.

DO carefully measure and use a level.

DON’T be afraid to use bold colours to make a statement

Stunning Stripes

  1. Choose the colours you want to use for the space, a base coat and a complementary colour. (see fig. A)
  2. Decide on the spacing of your stripes and measure accordingly.
  3. Using a level draw lines on your wall to help with the placement of the painter’s tape.

  4. Place pieces of painter’s tape on the wall in alignment with your measured lines. This tape covers the base coat below and creates crisp straight lines. (see fig. B)
  5. Paint the second colour between the strips of painter’s tape. (see fig. C)

  6. While the paint is still wet, remove the tape. If you wait until it is dry, it may lift some of the second colour with it. (see fig. D)
  7. Voila! (see fig. E)
