Brigitte’s new California Closet is fabulous! However, where do you hang those clothes that you’ve just ironed and don’t want to get crushed before you wear them? Can’t decide what to wear and need somewhere to hang your clothes while you ponder? Brigitte has a “grate” solution.

A “Grate” Closet Idea

  1. Scrounge around antique stores, estate sales or garage sales until you find an old cast iron grate. Clean it and paint it, if required. (see fig. A)
  2. Cut 1-inch wood dowelling into four pieces, 3 inches long. These will be the spacers against the wall or closet door. (Three inches allows lots of room for clothes hangers.)

  3. Using a piece of dowelling for each corner of the grate, attach the grate securely into a wall or closet door. Make sure you are screwing into a stud, or use wall anchors. (see fig. B)
  4. Now you have a terrific hanging area for your favourite outfits. (see fig. C)
