Reduce, recycle, reuse and resell. Brigitte’s need for more work space for her renovation projects prompts her to clean out the garage. And what’s the best way to get rid of your unwanted stuff? Why, a garage sale, of course! And all the proceeds go toward the “Brigitte Gall Home Improvement Fund.”

DO recycle building materials. Habitat for Humanity may not have a Restore in your town, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have any options. Check out garage sales and junkyards for cheap and salvageable building material. There may be a clearance section of your local hardware store where you can get deep discounts on material you can use.

DON'T throw out paint. If you have some left over from another project in your house, see if can use in your garage. Or trade with a friend for their leftover paint.

DO think creatively. How about putting those skanky old kitchen cabinets in your garage or basement for extra storage? Maybe all they need is a coat of paint and they’d work in a play room for your kids.

DO donate your left over building supplies and unsold items to an organization in need.
