DO plot out on paper what kinds of plants you want in your garden and where you want to place them. It’s also a good idea to keep a diagram of your garden handy so you will know where everything is.
DO take into consideration the amount of sunlight your garden gets throughout the day. If you get a lot of sun, choose plants that can live in that kind of heat.

DON’T be afraid to ask an expert. Your local plant shop is staffed by experts who will be able help you stock your garden.

DO dry fit your garden to make sure the plants will look good where you place them before you plant them in the ground. Remembe, plants, will grow all crazy and take over your garden if you don’t tend to them or take into consideration how they will grow (wide, tall etc.)

DO check the condition of your soil. Grab a handful of it. If it forms small clumps, it’s healthy. If it falls apart, there is too much sand in the soil. If it’s too clumpy there’s too much clay in the soil.
